David Harrison

Hi. I’m David Harrison, the new male Listener Convener (as of March 2015.

I’ve been living here for nearly 6 years now, after having been a regular visitor to the Community for over 15 years prior to this.

I joined the NFA council 2 years ago, since when I have regularly attended the weekly Council meetings, as well as taking on a number of roles, including being one of the NFA Peacekeepers, and link person to the Rainbow Bridge.

I get the sense that the word transition could be applied for most of the 52 years of this Community on one level or another, but this is a time when the Foundation is undertaking a Change Process, and we in the NFA Council have been exploring how we can best serve the Community as it is now. For me these are exciting and challenging times, and we need committed people on the council to help move this process forward, while continuing to support the day-to-day issues that make up this Community.

At the Transformation Game in November, we were asked the question `To what are you being called?’ , and I helped to further clarify for me that I will be standing for election for the role of male listener convener in March. I’m hoping that others have felt or are feeling a similar calling (however faint!!) to serve on Council. I have really appreciated how my role as a Council Member has deepened my connection to this Community, and has helped me to understand even more deeply the reality of our interdependence, both on a personal level and on a Community/systemic level.

I can remember the nerves/doubts that I felt when I initially stood for Council (and am feeling again now as I prepare to stand for listener convener!!). If there’s a part of you that has considered the possibility of standing for Council, but are going through a similar process, please feel free to come and talk it through with me.
