Theory – Why SPLASH anyway?
I got the idea for SPLASH through sitting quietly in meditation and after posing the question, “what can I offer with what I’ve learned here in Findhorn” And then SPLASH came forward as an idea and then as a peer-programme and now as a few webpages. And I knew the webpages would always be part of the plan because you probably need to contribute to the developing knowledge about spirit-led living (perhaps from your own country via the accessibility of web pages). Are you up for it?
Spirit-led living is, in my opinion, the fundamental change that is required at this time in human history. To talk in broad ideas, it seems like the next stage in human development is to move from mentally-led to spirit-led systems. What these will look like God only knows, but they will have respect for the planet and will give each individual a connection with their own life force which is the source of all the good stuff we seek by other means. Love will be the currency and work will be fun. And fun will be valued. And spirit-led living will be holistic and use all the knowledge of the personal development movement too.
And the idea for what constitutes a spiritual experience may need to be expanded in the future. For me, a spiritual experience is the experience of the God within or the Higher Self. Or it can be explained far more simply as a direct experience of what is good in life. Which part of us is it that responds to a huge range of diverse experiences – an exciting chord change in music, to a fluid individual goal in football, to a day in a garden, an evening of dancing, to the thrill of skiing, to the moment of falling in love, to the out of body state of a strong orgasm? I would suggest that we are responding to all of these with our spiritual self primarily, though our mind, body or emotions are involved. We have the sensation of the higher experience that these things may give us, and we register this with our higher self. The higher self recognizes everything of quality, recognizes everything that is profound and transcendent. I suggest that it is the higher self that recognizes fun, humour and the value of good conversation, so why not seek its company?
Spirit-led living is not conceptual, but it has to have something that the mind can understand at least as a starting point. And no-one knows the full extent of the power of this way of living because we haven’t yet explored it as an organizing system in our modern society. So SPLASH is a bare framework, a simple peer-group experiment, and is based in methods that have been used in the Findhorn Foundation and Community for many years. And like any good experiment it needs participation and results and someone to log those results. SPLASH theory and practice needs to be flexible and to be changed and modified over and over again. In additon the business part of a SPLASH meeting could be used for a huge range of topics in the future.
Do you want to get a group together and practice spirit-led living for a short time initially? Do you want to look at your findings and make them available online to others? Then set up a SPLASH group and join in. Together we can probably make some progress with this shift – both personal and planetary. If you have a knowledge of holistic living and personal development then all the better. Use what you know already.
